Vinod Palli didn't set out to build a transportation company. He set out to answer a question he'd had since his years designing convoy protocols for autonomous freight fleets: why is the road itself so dumb? The vehicles were getting smart, the batteries were getting cheap, the solar cells were getting cheaper still — but the surface they moved on had barely changed in a hundred years.
After a decade leading autonomy research at a global mobility lab, he decided the answer was to build the road itself as the intelligent thing. In 2023 he founded AutoTrack Systems in Dallas with three engineers and a whiteboard. Two years later the team is 62 strong, holds $180M in venture and infrastructure capital, and is breaking ground on the world's first solar-powered autonomous corridor.
Vinod holds an MS in Electrical Engineering from UT Austin and is named on 14 patents spanning convoy control, linear induction propulsion, and fault-tolerant PV arrays. He is the kind of founder who reviews the safety envelope math himself, at midnight, on a whiteboard.
His conviction is simple: America's intercity travel problem is a systems problem, and it can be solved. ATIS is what solving it looks like.
